Study to define the roadmap for ensuring maintenance’s contribution to asset management. Innovate or die – that is the dilemma?

SUMMARY

Since the launch of ISO 55001 for Asset Management in 2014, the various responsible areas involved in the life cycle phases of physical assets have been seeking to ensure that their processes and strategies contribute to the maturity of their asset management and to ensuring compliance with defined plans and objectives. Maintenance organizations (including companies providing maintenance services) are not exempt from this need. Therefore, this study aims to provide a roadmap to guide maintenance organizations in aligning their processes and functions with business objectives.

This roadmap is based on an international study in which maintenance managers from different sectors participated. It analyzes key aspects such as: management of maintenance strategies and plans, asset structure, the organization’s current objective regarding asset management, decision-making support for asset replacement, fault management, reliability program, use of information technology, most common maintenance problems, maintenance techniques, outsourcing, maintenance planning and scheduling, most common problems in planning, scheduling, execution, and closing of maintenance work, materials management, performance measurement and indicators, organizational climate, and people management and employee involvement.
