SUMMARY
Maturity Models emerge as a means to assess capabilities and competencies within organizations regarding the application of Project Management best practices, thereby charting a path for improvement to achieve excellence in project development. In 1987, the SEI (Software Engineering Institute) developed the Capability Maturity Model, the first Maturity Model designed to help software companies improve their processes. Since then, various Models have emerged, with their use and development being more common in regions where Project Management is more widespread (USA, UK, Latin America), leading to an excessive diversity of Maturity Models that complicates access and practical application for companies. In Spain, there is hardly any explicit documentation on the current use of Maturity Models in organizations, a gap we aim to fill with this study. This highlights the need to consult expert project professionals in the industry, leveraging their experience and knowledge of common real-world practices, to achieve a realistic and practical approach with the objective of proposing the foundations for a maturity model for project organizations in Spain.
